On conversion therapies for homosexuality, July 7, 2014

[Updated August 2017: I originally had a German translation made by the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahais of Germany. The text below is the original English ~ Sen]

“You have also asked whether the House of Justice ‘can point to effective treatments of homosexuality that have a track record of success.’ This is a matter for sicience to determine, and, clearly, the perspective of the medical community on homosexuality has changed significantly over the years. The question, however, is not whether sexual orientation can be changed, but whether, as a Bahá’í, one endeavors to abide by Bahá’u’lláh’s teachings. It is left to the individual believer to determine whether counselling or some other approach would be of personal assistance in this regard.”
(From a letter dated 7 July 2014 written on behalf of the Universal House of Justice to an individual believer)
